Stoke Motorcycle Training Centre

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) Pick up and drop service available.

We offer CBTs seven days a week, sites at Burslem Cricket Club, Festival Park ST6 3LQ and Birches Head High School, Birches Head ST2 8DD.

Under current legislation anyone who wishes to ride a motorcycle or scooter on the public highway must complete a compulsory basic training course. Although the course is not a test, all pupils must demonstrate a competent level of riding, and will need a good understanding of The Highway Code prior to the course commencing.

Elements of the CBT course

CBT is arranged so that you progress through a series of elements.

You will only move on to the next element when your trainer is happy you have:

  • learnt the theory you need
  • shown the practical skills to a safe basic level

The five elements are:

A. introduction
B. practical on-site training
C. practical on-site riding
D. practical on-road training
E. practical on-road riding
